Dimitris Vagenas intended to sell real Greek food from a shipping container in Dallas through his My Kuzina, a meal-prep and catering service with pickup and delivery options, but happy customers wanted more.
The Dallas News said he makes some of the best Greek food around, offering what Greeks eat at home.
“Greeks are very used to these foods, but in a Greek restaurant here, people have never seen, like, an okra and chicken stew,” Takou explains. “It’s my sister’s favorite food, but no one here knows it. That’s an aspect we are trying to develop as well, to educate people on what traditional Greek food means.”
Vagenas was born and raised in Athens and only arrived in the United States in 2014, to join wife, Margarita Takou, who’d made the move to get her doctorate.
“He was very interested in the kitchen, helping his mom and his grandmother cooking,” Takou says. “A lot of his talent, he took that from his mom and his grandmother.” Vagenas is the executive chef and owner, but he shyly suggested that his wife be interviewed instead because “she does the talking.”
