Lawyer Wants Jailed Hunger-Striker Terrorist Out on Health Grounds

ATHENS – The lawyer for jailed terrorist assassin Dimitris Koufodinas said his life sentence for killing 11 people during the reign of the Nov. 17 group should be suspended because he’s ill from being on a hunger strike almost two months.

Ioanna Kourtovik told ANT1 TV he’s become so ill from not eating, and now not taking fluids while in a hospital in the central city of Larissa, that she will submit a request to a court to get him out.

Koufodinas began the hunger strike to demand he be transferred from a prison in the central city of Domokos to Korydallos Prison in Athens – where he had been before being moved by the former ruling Radical Left SYRIZA to a low-security farm.

Now he wants to go back to the prison in Athens where he didn’t want to be now wants to be, his cause taken up by anarchist and terrorist sympathizers by the thousands who have marched in the streets of Athens and Thessaloniki to support him.

“The General Secretariat for Anti-Crime Policy, which violated the law, must reverse its decision and implement the law, if there is still time,” said Kourtovik, referring to his life said to be in danger and arguing the New Democracy government is not complying with requirements for transfers as allowed.

She said the Constitution and the law has been violated in the case of her client, claiming that the State has assumed a “warlike attitude” towards Koufodinas and her.
