Analysis: The Russian Attacks on Patriarch Bartholomew

October 20, 2021

It seems that Russia’s clergy and government officials have suffered a collective defeat, because this cannot be explained otherwise: Not a day goes by when they do not attack Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in a malignant manner with small-mindedness and libel.

We are talking about hot-headedness, because they simply cannot digest the granting of autocephaly to the Church of Ukraine and the success of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s recent visit there.

It was as if Patriarch Kirill and the multitasking Metropolitan of Volokolamsk Hilarion and their courtiers were not enough, because Lavrov of the Foreign Ministry also joined the dance and began to attack Patriarch Bartholomew without evidence in order to satisfy his despot and master, Vladimir Putin.

The circuit includes the various Russian-powered concealed sites in Greece and here, public words and writings the Russian Orthodox Church should be ashamed of.

The aforementioned grandiose figures and their submissive clergy and laity do not seem to understand that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew is not intimidated or humiliated by their words and deeds. In the face of attacks by unholy rascals – and by denizens of subversive cesspools – he steers the boat of the Orthodox Church guided by the compass of history, ecclesiology, prudence, and the wisdom of many centuries.

We now see clearly what these Russians are, that is how they understand the Church. And it is now painfully clear to all what they have been doing for years and years against the Mother Church of Constantinople with a massive dose of ignorance, forgetting that it is from Constantinople that they received the Orthodox Faith, but also that Moscow gained autocephaly in a shameful manner involving blackmail and a coup d’etat.

What is even more shameful, however, is that there are Hierarchs of the churches of Greece and Cyprus who are playing the Russian game. We are talking about Greek-speaking prelates who have in fact benefited from the Mother Church of Constantinople yet do not side with the Ecumenical Patriarch – rather, they indulge in playing games without thinking that their actions are actually directed against the soul of the Genos – the Hellenic Nation. A reaction of “wow!” would indeed be fitting. Historians, however, will write about their deeds, so their posthumous fame is already being tarnished.
