Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
From now until Christmas Day we will feature the countdown of 10 of the most popular versions of the beloved Christmas carol, “It Came upon the Midnight Clear.” To compare apples to apples, we chose 10 soloists, all male. Our staff members ranked the videos, and here are the results – from 10 to 1. Some comments from the judges are included (including my own two cents). How did we do? Johnny Cash seems a little out of place on this song, even though his voice sounds as perfect as wood crackling in the fireplace on Christmas Eve. Nonetheless, my TNH colleagues at a whole voted him only high enough into 7th place. I was a bit kinder – he finished 5th on my list.
It’s ok, Johnny, even though six singers finished ahead of you, they couldn’t hold a candle to you if it had been “Folsom Prison Blues.”
