Traditionally in Greece, ouzo is mostly enjoyed taverna-side, with an array of seafood and other salty mezedes adorning the table.
The ouzo most often is consumed on the rocks, its clear appearance instantly turned milky upon contact with the ice.
But what if you simply want to drink ouzo late in the evening, as if it were a glass of port or cognac? Most traditional ouza – at the standard 80 proof – particularly when chilled with ice go down so quickly and smoothly, that without appetizers to slow the process, you’ll be saying: “where did all that ouzo in the bottle go?” in no time.
The solution: Tetteris No. 5, an intensely aromatic, almost-creamy ouzo from Chios with sage/rosemary overtones and a powerful 46% (92 proof) alcoholic content.
This one still goes fine with ice, or neat. But either way, it is for sipping slowly, and so a couple of glasses is a great way to slowly wind down the night.
