Women Asylum Seekers and Their Children Holding Protest Rally in Greek Island

MORIA, Lesvos – Women, the majority from Afghanistan, who had applied for asylum and were housed in the reception and identification centre in Moria, Lesvos on Thursday staged a protest rally in the centre of the island’s main town, Mytilene.

Under the slogan “Moria is hell”, the 300 women and their children demanded to be transferred out of Moria hotspot and protested against the poor living conditions in the reception centre.

As of Thursday, January 30, there are more than 19,500 people accommodated within and in the areas surrounding area of the hotspot, far exceeding its capacity.
