Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
The CYTA welfare fund from Cyprus donated 50,000 euros ($57,109) for the July 23 wildfires in Greece that killed 100 people, presented in a check given to Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades to pass on.
A new hospital funded by Cyprus is the “symbolic contribution of Cyprus to the summer fire,” Anastasiades said, the Cyprus Mail reported, with the government putting 10 million euros ($11.42 million) with contributions from Cypriots to help survivors of the fire and victim’s families.
In October, Anastasiades received a cheque for 224,000 euros ($225,850) from Alpha Cyprus TV station, and one for 100,000 euros ($114,220) by hoteliers’ association Pasyxe.
During the summer, more than €264,000 was collected by the #StandByGreece campaign led by the Hope For Children center in aid of restructuring the infrastructure destroyed by the deadly fire to restore the village of Mati.
