Winning Streak Ends for NY Pancyprian Freedoms

On a misty Sunday night on Roosevelt Island, player injuries and missed opportunities were what it took for the NY Pancyprian Freedoms’ 17-game winning streak to end with a 3-0 loss to Zum Schneider FC in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Premier Soccer League. The NYPF were the on the front foot throughout the game, but with absent players, a narrow field and inconsistent referee decisions, the NYPF created chance after chance that could not be put away. This is the first loss of the Fall 2022 season for the NYPF that now seem themselves with a 4-0-1 record sitting in third place in their division with a game in hand.

“Unfortunately, we did not have a cutting edge last night,”said Panos Onisiforou, NYPF Head Coach. “We won’t be dwelling on the defeat. I still believe we are the best team in the league and a run of 17 wins Metro Division wins is an amazing accomplishment.”

The NYPF look to bounce back with a win against Suffolk United in the rescheduled Fricker Cup match on Thursday, 27th October at Breezy Park Field in Huntington. The winner of this game advances to the final.

• On Saturday night in Astoria Park, the NYPF II hosted the undefeated third division leaders Central Park Rangers Green In what would turn out to be a spectacular display of soccer. The NYPF II decisively won 3-1 with goals by former Eleftheria Youth players. Yusuf Adib in the third minute of the game and a pair for Sean Arus, The game was never in question as the NYPF II controlled the tempo throughout…

“Tonight, we showed that we are stronger than ever when each player plays for the club and their teammates first,” said Paul Kontonis, NYPF II Head Coach. “We have a strong squad with competition in every position, I am thrilled to be working with these players.”

The NYPF II next take on Barnstonworth Rovers FC on Saturday, October 29th at Astoria Park. The NYPF II are currently in third place in the Third Division of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League after filing an appeal regarding the abandoned match with Afghan Ittihad FC.

• The NYPF O-30 continued their stubborn never say die winning streak in the Long Island Soccer Football League with a superb 5-2 win against Garden City Centennials O-30 at St. Paul’s School in Garden City Two goals from Panos Onisiforou and Jemar Dawkins, plus a final goal by Christian Turizo puts the NYPF O-30 comfortably in first place of the LISFL O-30 table

The NYPF O-30 look to continue their winning streak in a Greek team matchup on Sunday, October 30th with a win against Megas Alexandros FC O-30 in Astoria Park.
