Thessaloniki: SARS-CoV-2 Viral Load in Sewage on the Rise

September 26, 2022

THESSALONIKI – The rate of increase of the novel coronavirus viral load concentration in Thessaloniki’s sewage is accelerating, which is attributed to the prevalence of the SARS-CoV-2 subvariants BA4 & BA5, while the “Kentavros” variant (BA.2.75) is still undetectable, according to the latest measurements carried out by the Wastewater Epidemiology Group of AUTH with EYATH, in collaboration with the Region of Central Macedonia and within the National Network of EODY.

The average weekly load change (from Thursday 15/9 to Wednesday 21/9) showed an increase of 46 pct and is the first such significant weekly increase after almost two months of slow decline.
