The Hellenic Volunteer Firefighters Association Honors SNF

October 24, 2021

ATHENS — The Hellenic Volunteer Firefighters Association has honored the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) for providing personal protective equipment that helped volunteer firefighters perform their duties safely.

Ambassador Vassilis Kaskarelis accepted an honorary plaque on behalf of SNF’s Board of Directors during an event held on October 20, 2021.

SNF’s major grant to the Hellenic Fire Department, announced after the devastating fires of 2018 in Greece, covered the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) for firefighters, the implementation of educational programs, and the construction of the SNF Hellenic Fire Corps Training Center. This Center, currently under development in Nea Makri, Attica, and scheduled to open next fall, will be the only one of its kind in Southeast Europe. A substantial portion of the PPE supplied through the grant went to the volunteer firefighters who protect their neighbors, the natural environment, and their communities with heroism and self-sacrifice.

As part of the event, former President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos was also made an honorary member of the Hellenic Volunteer Firefighters Association.
