Programs and Events at the Maliotis Cultural Center

November 16, 2019

BOSTON – The Maliotis Cultural Center, continuing its long standing tradition, has planned a number of high quality programs and cultural events for the next few weeks.

Seeking to move forward as an outstanding cultural institution it has recruited young men and women from Boston universities to develop and present its program. The president of the Board of Directors, Professor Philippos Seraphim, told The National Herald that “with this team the Center is in the process of organizing high quality Greek cultural events, as the Greeks, Greek-Americans, and Philhellenes of New England deserve.”

Professor Lefteris Kordis of Berklee School of Music is the Center’s Music Director. He will oversee and co-ordinate the Second Annual Greek Music Festival on November 17. Last year’s festival was a great success.

The well-known and popular singer Panayota Haloulakou, a graduate of the famed New England Conservatory of Music, is the Maliotis Center Choir Director. The choir performed at the OXI Day celebration on October 27 and it will also perform at the Festival November 17 and at the Christmas Program December 22.

The Center will invite other musical groups, such as Rebetiko from New York with Angelilki Psoni in late January.

Other initiatives include programs related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) under the direction of Evangelia Panagakou, a doctoral student at Boston College; the Greek Children’s Library under the direction of Professor Vamvakas of Emmanuel College, Greek Dance under the direction of Tania Ploumis, doctoral student at the University of Massachusetts-Boston

Theater, and Cinema presentations on December 14 and in early March.

Several societies use the Center for their meetings, such as the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of New England and the Academic Circle of the Hellenic University Professors.
