NEW YORK – New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer recently invited community leaders to meet with him at his Manhattan office. After congratulating them on Greek Independence, he said he looks forward to more meetings to work with them to improve their neighborhoods.

He talked about his Greek friends and growing up in Washington Heights near the Church of St. Spyridon and spoke warmly of his friendship and work with New York State Senator Michael Gianaris, who was also present.

Stringer was among the numerous public officials who joined in the celebration of the 193rd anniversary of Greek Independence at the Pierre Hotel on the morning of the Greek parade which was hosted by The Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York. Its president, Elias Tskerides and that event’s MC, Tasos Manessis also attended the gathering in the conference room of the Comptroller’s office.

Stringer had previously met a number of the people present last year at the AHEPA Chapter 41 Breakfast Round Table series in Bay Ridge that is hosted by former New York State Assemblyman Matthew Mirones.

Stringer attended local public schools and graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He and his wife, Elyse, live with their two sons, Maxwell and Miles, on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

He was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1992, representing Manhattan’s Upper West Side for 13 years, and won election in 2006 as Manhattan Borough President. He was elected Comptroller on November 5, 2013. As Borough President, Stringer transformed the office into a watchdog of government waste and mismanagement.
