Nisi: Your Own Little Greek Island Restaurant in Indiana Town

December 11, 2021

Indiana wants it, so the Nisi Greek Taverna is coming to the town of Schereville, courtesy of owners Dean and Katerina Frangos, who own a seafood-and-meat restaurant and luxury bar and grill and are adding to their operations.

They acquired a spot when a long-time family restaurant that was around for four decades closed in 2019. “It’s right down the street,” Katerina Frangos said. “We were familiar with the area and saw an opportunity with the building.”

She told NWI Times that the couple saw the need for a new sit-down style Greek restaurant. Her father, Stamatios, owned the Paragon Family Restaurant in Schererville, a popular family-style diner and banquet hall that closed in 2013.

Their place is named after the Greek word for island and Katerina said they took their time to find the right chef, Pandelis Vouros, a young man born in Greece who was a contestant on the TV show MasterChef Greece.

“It will be all the classics but with fun twists,” she said. “We’re doing the best versions of Greek food in a fun and contemporary way with the deep-rooted flavors of Greek cuisine.”
