New Hope for Cyprus Talks Amid Report Barbaros Will Leave EEZ by 12/ 30

The Turkish media have reported that the Turkish seismic vessel named “Barbaros” will leave Cypriot waters on Tuesday.

The reports generated hope that the Cyprus re-unification talks could soon resume.

The ship violated Cyprus’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) on October 20, causing President Nicos Anastasiades to pull out of the UN-sponsored talks.

“Turkish-Cypriot negotiator Ergun Olgun said the Barbaros is set to withdraw from the area by December 30 having completed its exploration activities, paving the way for the resumption of stalled talks,” according to Turkish media reports cited by Kathimerini.

NICOSIA - Six years after Cyprus approved cremation, the country's first crematorium is due to start use by 2024 after applications for its construction were approved by the environment department.
