Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
SAN FRANCISCO — With the blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos, the Metropolis Greek Language and Culture Ministry invites you to attend a virtual celebration of Greek Letters Day and the Feast of the Three Hierarchs. This live-stream event will be hosted by the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Anchorage, Alaska on Saturday, January 30 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. PST utilizing the Zoom platform. His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America will honor us with his presence, offering a special message during this program.
“The Three Hierarchs were leaders in education and oration and it is only fitting that we honor their contributions through this event as we pray that our students receive this gift of knowledge, using it always for the advancement of the Orthodox Christian faith and Hellenic ideals,” stated His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco. “I commend the vision and initiative of our Greek Language and Culture Ministry to embrace a community like Holy Transfiguration in Anchorage, Alaska, bringing to them this program along with specialized training and resources to enhance the development of the Greek language education program at their parish.”
The afternoon will include presentations from Greek School and Sunday School students from throughout the Metropolis speaking on The Three Hierarchs, and a musical performance by individual members of the award-winning Aloha Youth Choir from Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr. Elias Petrou, Research Associate will offer present on the topic, “The Three Hierarchs; Defenders of Christianity and Protectors of Greek Letters.” Professor Petrou is a Research Associate Specialist for the Digital Database/Library Thesaurus Linguae Graecae® at the University of California, Irvine
“The leadership team of the Metropolis of San Francisco Greek Language and Culture Ministry, under the direction of Katerina Iconomou, Chair; and team members Georgia Covell, Cecile Davis, Gabriella Papatzimas, Dr. Elias Petrou, and Anastasia “Tessy” Tzoytzoyrakos, are to be commended for their efforts in preparing this virtual gathering in honor of the Feast of the Three Hierarchs and Greek Letters Day,” stated His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos.
