Greek President: Explosion of Gorgopotamos Bridge Symbolizes Our Nation’s Unity

ATHENS – "The National Resistance against the occupation forces (1941-44) is one of the most significant pages of our modern history," the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulos said on Sunday for the Day of the National Resistance.

The President pointed out that "the explosion of the railway bridge of Gorgopotamos, on November 25, 1942, symbolizes over time the explosive power of the unity of our nation" and underlined:

"Today's anniversary is the practical recognition and honor to the thousands of freedom fighters. To all those, men, women and children, who with unparalleled self-denial and bravery fought fascism and Nazism and were sacrificed for their homeland."
