Greek-American James A. Koshivos, 21, Killed after Car Plunged into Ocean
FALMOUTH, MA – The police in Falmouth have identified the victim in an accident involving a car plunging into the ocean on February 20, NBC10 Boston reported.
NEW YORK – With Steven Spielberg’s version of West Side Story opening on December 10, Greek-French singer George Perris shared his version of the musical’s classic song Somewhere in a video premiere on PopWrapped on December 8. The video is an excerpt from Perris’ third PBS concert special, titled George Perris: A Sunset in Greece, set to air on December 15. Check your local PBS station listings for the date and time in your area.
The special was filmed at the Temple of Aphaia on the Greek island of Aigina in the Saronic Gulf. Formerly known as the Temple of Jupiter Panhellenius, the 2,500-year old Doric temple is now recognized as being dedicated to the mother-goddess Aphaia. The use of the historic site for the special’s shoot is historic itself, PopWrapped reported, noting that Perris is the first artist ever to perform at the ancient Greek temple.
The song Somewhere, composed by the legendary Leonard Bernstein and with lyrics by Broadway icon Stephen Sondheim who recently passed away, “has been a staple of George’s live sets for over a decade, and he’s always regarded the piece as an ode of sorts to forgiveness – after such a trying couple of years for us all, it serves as a reminder that we should and need to forgive each other more, and unite to face our troubles and dark times,” PopWrapped reported.
“While many musical fans and those who have seen the original film will already be familiar with the song, George’s rendition, which showcases his stunning vocal talents, re-works it beautifully, giving it a new, fresh feel and allowing it, and by association the musical and film, to be introduced to a whole new generation,” PopWrapped reported.
The song is a sample of what fans can look forward to on Perris new album set to be released in 2022. The album offers “insight into the many songs that have shaped George both as a person and as an artist over the years,” PopWrapped reported.
Besides his talent as a performer, Perris “is also a keen advocate of and for the arts and someone passionate about humanitarianism,” PopWrapped reported, adding that “his upcoming special and new album are both sponsored by the Horatio Alger Association, a nonprofit educational organization that grants scholarships to students facing adversity.”
