Greek Cops Find 3.2 Million Euros Cocaine in Banana Package Stash

ATHENS – Smugglers try any number of means to get contraband goods into Greece, from cigarettes to drugs and police now said they found 100 bricks of cocaine, weighing 161 kilos (355 pounds) inside containers loaded with bananas.

The discovery, said Reuters, was made after police seized two suspect containers in the port of Piraeus and the taken to the second-largest port in Thessaloniki, in the north, no word why they weren’t opened before that.

The bananas were shipped in from Latin America, authorities said without revealing who the company was or the destination, but police said the drugs were destined to be distributed across the country and other European spots.

They were found as part of an initial investigation that Greek authorities began in May with those in the neighboring North Macedonia and Unites States anti-drug operators after 100 kilos (220.4 pounds) of cocaine was also found in banana containers that saw 14 people arrested in that case.
