FM: Greece Addresses Turkish Provocations with Calm

ATHENS – “Greece does not make assumptions in advance about the stance that Turkey will adopt at the next NATO Summit and in other European fora and does not circulate scenarios regarding the possible raising of Turkish unilateral demands for the demilitarisation of the Aegean islands,” stated Greek foreign ministry spokesperson Alexandros Papaioannou, in reply to a press question on Tuesday.

The question referred to press reports citing statements by diplomatic sources that the Turkish side will not raise the demilitarisation of the Aegean islands at the NATO Summit.

“We are addressing the escalation of Turkish rhetoric with prudence and calm and answer with arguments on the basis of the International Law and the Law of the Sea,” added Papaioannou.

“At the same time, we are briefing our partners and allies on Turkey’s unlawful behaviour,” he concluded.
