Achtsioglou: Protecting Labour Means Protecting Jobs and Salaries

ATHENS – "Protection of labour means preserving jobs, preserving labour relations – without a change from full-time to part-time or rotating shifts – and paying 100 percent of salaries," stated main opposition SYRIZA's sector-head for labour Effie Achtsioglou on Tuesday, talking to ALPHA TV.

Achtsioglou called for a financial support package for employees, businesses, the unemployed, people in culture, the self-employed and professionals that experienced a sudden sharp drop in their income. "If there is no such a package, will once again enter a vicious circle like the one we experienced during the fiscal crisis, with austerity, measures and deepening debt," she said.

Finally, she insisted that the money immediately available for this purpose, including both national and community funds, amounts to 32 billion euros: "SYRIZA proposes measures for the immediate public spending of 13.4 billion euros, 'fresh money' pumped into the market to support workers and the economy."
