Mitsotakis on COVID: Personal Responsibility Is the Flip Side of Solidarity

October 22, 2020

ATHENS — Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday briefed President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou on the situation regarding the coronavirus pandemic and the results of the trilateral summit of Greece, Egypt and Cyprus.

"We are facing a second wave of the pandemic and we are still doing better than other European countries but this is no great comfort," said Mitsotakis, adding that he will address the Greek people in the afteroon on "where we are and which additional measures we will take."

At the same time, he said that the trilateral summit held in Cyprus reaffirmed which countries are dedicated to international legality, the rules of good neighbourly relations and respect for international law and which country in the Eastern Mediterranean does not want to play by the rules. He also said that the Egyptian President will pay an official visit to Greece in November and expressed the hope that Turkey will change its stance and stop all provocative actions.

Finally, Mitsotakis referred to the situation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, noting that "we do not have phenomena of high infection in schools and the reason is that the safety measures, such as the use of face masks, are being strictly followed".

Addressing the President he said that had "brought her experience as supreme court judge charged with deciphering the Constitution," and was absolutely right that personal responsibility was the flip side of solidarity. "Οur action affect other people and the people we love. Personal responsibility is the model of behaviour on which we will build collective solidarity," the prime minister noted.
