NEW YORK – A GoFundMe campaign was launched on July 3 in memory of Kyriakoula Gasparis who was killed in a car accident early in the morning on July 1 in Levittown. She was 20 years old.

The visitation and funeral were held on July 3 at the St. Markella Greek Orthodox Church in Wantagh, NY. The burial followed at the St. Margaret Cemetery in Plainview, NY.

According to the GoFundMe campaign, organized by Irene Bachas, “Kyriakoula Gasparis was a very active youth in our church community helping and participating in Saint Markella’s Greek School, G.O.Y.A, and during the annual church festival. Never forgetting her roots she was part of the Greek Club while majoring in Bioscience at SUNY Farmingdale.

“Kyriakoula will forever be remembered as a kind hearted soul that did everything to help others whether it was a shoulder to cry on or to make someone smile. Kyriakoula is survived by her parents George and Rena, family, and friends.

“In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations so that an icon can be made at St. Markella Church in Kyriakoula’s memory, as well as expenses for the funeral.”

As of July 5, over $20,000 of the $25,000 goal has been raised.
