Tassia Athanassiou Appointed as Greece’s Special Envoy on Syria

ATHENS – Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias has appointed Ambassador Tassia Athanassiou as the Greek foreign ministry's special envoy on Syria, a ministry announcement said on Tuesday.

Athanassiou will be responsible for contacts relating to the international aspects of the Syrian issue and related humanitarian actions, as well as the coordination of actions ahead of the efforts underway for the rebuilding of Syria, the same announcement said.

Tassia Athanassiou served Ambassador of Greece in Damascus from 2009 to 2012 and supervised the suspension of operations of the Greek diplomatic missions there, as dictated by security conditions at that time.
