President Sakellaropoulou in Karditsa to Honour Karaiskakis

ATHENS — "I am today in Mavrommati, Karditsa to honour the memory of a warrior of the Greek Revolution who has been praised as few others have: Georgios Karaiskakis, the 'Achilles of Romiosyni' as Kostis Palamas called him," President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou said on Wednesday while attending events in Mavrommati, Karditsa, where one of the great generals of the Greek Revolution, Georgios Karaiskakis, originally came from.

And she added:

"We are inspired by the intensity and passion with which he fought for our freedom, by his indomitable spirit, his contribution to the nation."

Earlier, the President of the Republic attended a service given by the Metropolitan of Thessaly and Fanariofersala, Timothy. Afterwards, a memorial service was held at the statue of Georgios Karaiskakis, where she laid a wreath.
