Pompeo: Turkey Undermines NATO’s Cohesion

December 2, 2020

WASHINGTON — Turkey contradicts the principles and operation of NATO, undermining its cohesion, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said at a NATO Foreign Affairs Ministers meeting opening on Tuesday online, diplomatic sources said.

According to the sources, Pompeo referred the provocative actions of Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean, Libya, Syria and Nagorno-Karabakh.

He is also reported as saying that Turkey's purchase of the Russian antimissile system S-400 is "a gift to Russia" by a NATO alliance member. The alliance's deconfliction mechanism, which is not working because of Turkey, should restart, sources said quoting him.
