Nothing Like Some Good Oh My Greek! Food in The Philippines

MANILA – When it's said you can find Greek food anywhere, that includes the Philippines too where Oh My Greek! has opened a branch in Manila, hoping to change the image of Greek restaurants in that country as being expensive.

“We wanted Greek food to be very accessible, a fast-food style of cuisine whereby people who order their meal at an affordable price point and receive their meal within 15 minutes,” John-Michael Hilton, CEO of Visum Ventures, the group behind the Oh My Greek! concept told ABS-ABN News.

He said one of the reasons Manila was picked was because of the love Filipinos have for a Greek staple, pork, as well as shawarma, an Arab specialty in which meat is roasted on a cone-like spit, much like souvlaki.

Some 11 percent of the country's population, however, doesn't eat pork since the wrap has to be halal for Muslims.

The Greek version with pork gives a very different flavor due to the way it's cooked and using tzatziki white sauce.

There's also Greek options such as octopus and calamari and the Cypriot grilled cheese halloumi.
