NEW YORK – The Hellenic Lawyers Association (HLA) held their annual Christmas party on December 19 at Ammos in Midtown Manhattan. The event brought together the HLA members and friends who enjoyed the delicious appetizers and the festive atmosphere at the popular Greek restaurant.
In her remarks at the party, HLA President Chrisanthy N. Zapantis-Melis wished all those present all the best for the holiday season, a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and noted all the events organized by the Association and the plans for expanding their efforts in 2020.
She spoke with The National Herald at the event, noting the plans to expand the networking events for young lawyers and law students and increase the fundraising efforts for the scholarships HLA bestows each year.
Also present at the event were Head of Economic and Commercial Affairs for the Consulate General of Greece in New York Georgios Michailidis, HLA 2nd Vice President George Zapantis, Corresponding Secretary John Zervopoulos, Recording Secretary Thomas T. Papain, former HLA president Peter Metis, and former HABA president Fanny Trataros.
Everyone wished all the best for Christmas and New Year’s and looked forward to the Association’s next event, the traditional cutting of the vasilopita which will be held jointly with the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce, HABA – Hellenic American Association for Professionals in Finance, Hellenic Medical Society of New York, Cyprus-U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Hellenic Professional Women, Inc., at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 337 East 74th Street in Manhattan on January 9.
The Hellenic Lawyers Association of New York was founded to establish a network of attorneys of Hellenic descent and to provide opportunities for professional development. The association currently has over 800 contacts and members in the community including attorneys, judges and law students. The goals of the Association are to expand membership, provide resources to members, and strengthen the professional and social ties among them.
