Wildfire on Mt Athos under Partial Control

THESSALONIKI – A wildfire that broke out on Saturday afternoon on Mt Athos, in a forest area between the monasteries of Dochiariou and Konstamonitou was set on Sunday under partial control.

According to initial estimations, the fire broke out in an olive grove and took dimensions very fast due to the strong winds that were blowing in the area.

28 Fire engines with an 88-member crew, four teams of firemen on foot, seven firefighting aircraft, volunteers and, water trucks and other machinery are battling the blaze.
