Varvitsiotis: Greece, for the First Time in Its History, Has an EEZ

ATHENS — "Greece, for the first time in its history, has acquired an Exclusive Economic Zone," said Alternate Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis to the public broadcaster ERT on Thursday, referring to the Greece-Italy agreement signed in Athens on Tuesday, June 9.

Varvitsiotis said that "no concession has been made on any front on Greece's part."

Asked about the delimitation of Greece's EEZ with Egypt, he said that this was currently in the negotiating stage, adding that the government is not exercising secret diplomacy or carrying out secret negotiations.

Finally, he underlined that Greece was currently having to face Turkish provocativeness and needed a united national front and a common understanding of international law and international diplomacy.

ATHENS - The European Commission is reportedly mulling whether to bring legal action against Greece for using European Union funds to build refugee and migrant detention centers that could be violations of asylum seekers rights.
