Espen Barth Eide, the UN Secretary General`s Special Adviser on Cyprus, has said the Cyprus talks are still in a stalemate “but the two sides recognise that it is not benefiting them and there is a will to move out of the crisis, has said from New York, adding that he was now more cautiously optimistic than when he was in Cyprus,” CNA reported.
Eide spoke after briefing the UN Security Council and the Secretary General`s Special Representative in Cyprus, Lisa Buttenheim.
“Eide said the Security Council has confirmed it stands behind them in efforts to reach a settlement, adding that they felt very encouraged….In his statements, Eide said “Special Representative Buttenheim and I have both briefed the Security Council today both on the UNFICYP report and on the state of play in the negotiations on the political field,” according to CNA.
