Tsipras: Mitsotakis Coming Away from the EU Summit Empty Handed

ATHENS — Greece failed to achieve its goals at the European Council, main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance President Alexis Tsipras asserted on Friday, saying that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis "did not only go under the bar but failed to even reach it."

"Once again Mr. Mitsotakis leaves an EU Summit empty handed," the main opposition leader said in a post on Facebook.

"Neither sanctions on Turkey nor even a mechanism that would activate them if the provocations start again," stated Tsipras, adding that "the question is why did he throw in the towel? Especially on the day when the Turkey-Libya Treaty was officially posted at the UN, the day when an agreement between the two sides at NATO was announced and one day after Pompeo's departure from Greece".

"As long as we do not know what exactly he has agreed to, signed and is signing in Berlin, we will put all this down to simple coincidence" he added.

ATHENS - With six of 24 French-made Rafale fighter jets arriving in Greece, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said at a ceremony welcoming them that they are a deterrence against Turkey, which repeatedly sends fighters into Greek air space.
