To Get to Know Their City, SNF Paideia Fellows Circumnavigate It

September 24, 2021

PHILADELPHIA — Before the school year starts, fellows in the University of Pennsylvania’s Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Paideia Program took a walk around Philadelphia—literally. “Walking is a great way to mesh dialogue and wellness,” reflected Class of 2024 student Yasmin Abdul Razak. “It lends itself to self-reflection, reflection as a group, and what it means to be a citizen.”

The SNF Paideia Program at the University of Pennsylvania seeks to imagine a new approach to educating students as whole people and citizens, drawing inspiration from ancient Greece and the concept of “paideia,” which indicated the rearing and education of the ideal citizen.
