TNH Staff Picks Best Version of Oh Holy Night: #3 – Jackie Evancho

From now until Christmas Day we will feature the countdown of 10 of the most popular versions of the beloved Christmas carol, “Oh Holy Night.” To compare apples to apples, we chose 10 soloists, all female. Our staff members ranked the videos, and here are the results – from 10 to 1. Some comments from the judges are included (including my own two cents). How did we do? Please let us know – and, most of all, enjoy!

The top three picks blew away the rest, according to our judges. Had the choices been among children under 12, Jackie Evancho would have had no competition, but even in the overall contest, the 10 year-old won as many first-place votes as the ultimate winner (to be revealed on Christmas Eve), and would have won the poll had it not been for one judge – who ranked her last! I had her in fifth place, because her voice, at this stage, can only do so much – though to think she was only 10 (she’s 13 now)  and can sing this well is staggering. Within five years, she may be in a class by herself.

What do you think?
