NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
While Greek festivals around the country were canceled, rescheduled or modified to drive-thru's to try to bring in some much-needed revenue for events that are big money makers for them, St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church in Belleview, Florida tried a three-day yard sale.
“We first did such a sale three years ago, and now is a great time to do it again,” Vivian Badami, a Village of Mallory Square resident and President of the Villages Greek-American Social Club, told The Villages Daily Sun.
She was in charge of the Nov. 11-13 affair and said the team putting it together didn't leave anything to chance during the pandemic when people are afraid to venture out.
“We started to organize our fellowship hall for the yard sale about a month ago, and a few of our available items have been in storage for several months,” she said.
The yard sale is a fundraiser benefitting the church and the charities and groups it supports, with 10 percent of proceeds going to Operation Shoebox, Food 4 Kids and The Villages Honor Flight, the church supporting Belleview High School too.
