Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
MOUNT PLEASANT, SC – Building on the success of their Greek restaurant Philosophia in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, childhood friends Justin Hunt and Dimitri Hatgidimitriou have opened another: Taverna Philosophia, with a different look and feel.
Philosophia specializes in shareable Greek plates like pastitsio, sea bass and pan-fried kefalograviera cheese, flambéed with brandy and lemon and served in a cast-iron skillet, reported the Charleston Post & Courier.
Taverna Philosophia took another approach, trying to blend the service style and ambiance of a brasserie with Greek cuisine. Extensive renovations have taken place since Taverna Philosophia was announced in 2023, including adding a raw bar with oysters, clams and ceviche.
The restaurants are near each other which allows Hunt and Hatgidimitriou to be present at both restaurants, Hunt said. They said they were encouraged to go with it because of the response of regulars to their first restaurant.
“We’ve got a great, great team at Philosophia that’s able to give us the opportunity to get this open while they take care of our regulars,” Hunt said.
