Theatrical Performance by the Thaleia Theater Group at St. Demetrios Union, NJ

UNION, NJ – The theatrical comedy ‘Oi Klironomoi’/ ‘The Heirs’ was presented by the Thaleia Greek Theater Group in the community hall of St. Demetrios in Union, NJ, beginning on May 17. The second performance was on May 19 and the third is scheduled for June 1.

The writer and director of the play, Mata Agriantonis, along with the actors, Konstantinos Lappas, Nitsa Manolas, Anna Lambrakopoulos, Sophia Malandrenias, Nikos Mazis, Efi Mazis, Vasiliki Spyropoulos, Tasia Lappas, Kiki Desipris, Tessa Tsiamita, and Angelo Vrohidis, received the warm applause from the audience for their excellent performance, the direction, scenography, and costumes.

In her welcoming remarks, Agriantonis thanked the audience for their presence and support, the community of St. Demetrios for the hospitality and congratulated the amateur actors for their zeal and effort.

She said: “The non-profit organization ‘Thaleia’ aims to promote and preserve the Greek language through the Greek theater in New Jersey. Because there is no theater here, to see a show you have to go to Manhattan or Astoria. In 2018, the group and I met and decided to create our own amateur theater club which we named ‘Thaleia’, in honor of the muse of comedy.”

“All proceeds from the three performances of the show will be donated to the community of St. Demetrios and the Greek school,” Agriantonis said. “A big thank you to the volunteers for their valuable contribution.”

Presiding priest of the community Fr. Evgenios Tsaramanidis congratulated the theater group in his remarks to The National Herald. He mentioned everyone’s great love for acting and noted the many intensive lessons they had for months in rehearsals to present the show. Fr. Tsaramanidis wished them all the best and hoped to see many more successful performances from the theater group.

St. Demetrios Parish Council President Vasiliki Spyropoulos expressed her joy for the organization of such a beautiful cultural event at the church.
