Greek-American James A. Koshivos, 21, Killed after Car Plunged into Ocean
FALMOUTH, MA – The police in Falmouth have identified the victim in an accident involving a car plunging into the ocean on February 20, NBC10 Boston reported.
ATHENS – On September 18th, 2022, the Hellenic Relief Foundation and their partner organization distributed school supplies at their headquarters in Athens. Around 180 children and their families came in order to receive the necessary supplies for the start of the school year, including backpacks, stationary, writing utensils, as well as hand sanitizer and lice shampoo, cookies, sweets, juices, and more. Sponsors in this effort for the children of our beneficiaries included the N. Konstantopoulou Group, children’s items company GIM, the SKAGIA company, and stationary company NEOHART. The hand sanitizer was complements of Korres, while the sweet and savory offerings at the distribution, as well a variety of stationary and school supplies was provided by the Social Committee of the Athenian Society, who were generous in their general support.
The distribution was organized under the direction of Ms. Maria Siourdi, director of the H.R.F’s partner organization, with special participation from the President of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Athens and the President of the Athenian Society, Mr. Eleftherios G. Skiadas, as well as Mrs. Saki Kypraiou, and Mrs. Elli Thanogianni. Essential for the success and organization of the event was the presence of our volunteers including Notas Alamanou, Nanta Leivaditi, and Emy Spanou.
In addition to the school supplies, the beneficiaries also received their monthly food distribution packets, with other beneficiaries also picking up their monthly packets throughout the rest of the week, to avoid overcrowding. The H.R.F.’s food distribution efforts were made possible by Food Bank, Agrovim, METRO – MyMarket, Kamilaris S.A., Karamolengos, Arla Foods, FrieslandCampina, as well as our volunteers.

The Hellenic Relief Foundation Inc. is a non profit organization (501(c)3) and was founded in 2012, with the goal of raising funds in the United States to be used towards the purchase of food items, and other basic necessities for the underprivileged in Greece that have increased in numbers due to the current crisis. To date, around 800,000 dollars have been remitted, and with donations within Greece, as well as volunteered social and medicinal services, the true value of the aid is roughly 1.5 million dollars.
