The Hellenic Bar Association Foundation to Honor NHL Hall of Famer Chris Chelios

September 28, 2024

LOMBARD, IL – The Hellenic Bar Association Foundation announced that it will honor Greek-American NHL Hall of Famer and U.S. Olympian Chris Chelios with the 2024 Professional Achievement Award at its 74th Annual Scholarship Ball on Saturday, November 16, at The Westin in Lombard, IL.

Chris Chelios is a former NHL Hall of Fame defenseman, USA Olympian, and three-time Stanley Cup Champion. During his over 25-year professional career, Chris played for the Montreal Canadiens (1984-1990), the Chicago Blackhawks (1990-1999), and the Detroit Red Wings (1999-2009). Chelios holds the record for most career playoff games played and tied for most NHL seasons played, making him one of the longest tenured players to play in the NHL. Chelios led the USA Hockey Team to a silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT, and was Captain of the USA Hockey Team at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.

Chelios was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in November 2013 and in February 2024, the Chicago Blackhawks retired his #7 jersey at a Blackhawks game, making Chelios the ninth Blackhawk player to receive the honor. Chelios is currently working on and promoting El Bandido Yankee Tequila, an independent spirits company that he co-founded with former NFL player Jim Bob Morris.

This year, the theme of the 74th Annual Scholarship Ball is ‘Celebrating the Performing Arts and Sports Entertainment.’ Cocktails and Silent Auction begin at 6 PM. Dinner and dancing start at 7 PM.
