The Greeks Are Back Wants Greek Executives Abroad Expertise

ATHENS – Hoping to tap the experience of Greek executives abroad, a conference has been set for Oct. 21, 2021 here under the name The Greeks Are Back, hoping it will lure top business minds to take part.

The further aim, said Kathimerini, is for the recruits with ties to the homeland to offer some further proposals to make the country more attractive to foreign business, a central part of Prime Minister and New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis' agenda.

Foreign companies had been stifled during the previous 4 1/2-year reign of the anti-business Radical Left SYRIZA which stalled major projects in the country and has a hard core that doesn't want investors.

Greece has long had a reputation as a tough place to do business because of a labyrinthine bureaucracy and and corruption, with bribes sometimes sought to push licenses and permits for projects.

“Hundreds of Greeks excel in senior positions in large multinational companies around the world. These are experienced executives, with deep international knowledge and experience who are eager to put their knowledge and experience at the disposal of Greece,” Andreas Yannopoulos, CEO of organizer Public Affairs & Networks said.

“The Greeks Are Back conference will draw on this expertise to contribute to the production of effective public policies for attracting foreign investment in Greece,” he told the paper of what is planned to be an annual affair if possible.

ATHENS – The COVID-19 pandemic is still lingering but landlords eager to recoup losses during early lockdowns – coupled with the return of short-term rentals – are driving up the rents for apartments in the Greek capital.
