I don’t think that anybody disagrees that the most forgotten ones in our Greek-American Community are the teachers of the Greek Schools of the Greek Orthodox parishes of the Archdiocese. They offer their valuable services, teaching the Greek language, our traditions and customs, the history and culture of our homeland, and they are rewarded with…salaries below poverty line. We could say that they offer their teaching services voluntarily simply because they care.
There is no substantial interest anywhere and in anyone to just call things by their real name – including the Archdiocese, but also Greece, whose officials every time they visit the schools of our Community simply take pictures, make promises…and do nothing beyond that.
The seminars that the officials of the Archdiocese – the Department of Education – organize via Internet or in person are nothing but ways of justifying their lofty salaries and benefits.
Someone must be naive to believe that Koularmanis or Tsamkopoulos can do anything substantial about Hellenic Paideia, even to commence initiatives, to develop strategies, to prompt an awakening throughout America.
I won’t make any reference to the various societies and organizations that are concerned with Hellenic Paideia out of respect for Paideia and the Language. I think we understand what is going on regarding this great subject of Paideia, so there is no need for further explanation.
