January 24, 2022

BERLIN – The footpaths on the island of Andros were featured in an article by the popular German hiking tourism magazine, Wandern & Reisen.

According to the magazine, the island’s network of footpaths, covering dozens of kilometres, is the reason why the Cyclades islands are on the map of the best walking destinations.

The six-page feature article transports readers to the ancient footpaths, which have been incorporated into an extensive walking network, giving maps and routes and promoting the volunteer work dones by the association Andros Routes. It also praises the local cuisine and island’s varied landscape, which combines wild and green mountainous scenery, rejuvenating springs, blue-green sea and a number of architectural influences.

The author visited the island at the invitation of the local municipality and relates the story of a German who was so enthralled by Andros that he decided to stay there permanently and help with the work of the footpath volunteers.

“It is a fact that international trends int he post-Covid era bring to the fore new values that Andros promotes to the greatest degree. We highlight nature, history, hiking and hospitality but also the human stories as inseparable parts of the destination,” said the Deputy Tourism Minister Nikos Moustakas.
