Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
ATHENS – The Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece, presided by His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all of Greece, met at the Inter-Orthodox Center in the Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Penteli and elected five new Metropolitans.
The five new Metropolitans are the following:
Archimandrite Platon Krikris was elected the new Metropolitan of Langadas, Liti and Rentini. He was born on the island of Patmos in 1962, where he graduated from the Ecclesiastical School of Patmos. He studied theology at the Theological School of the university of Athens and completed his graduate studies at the Theological School of the University of Thessaloniki.
Archimandrite Kallinikos Georgatos was elected the new Metropolitan of Kastoria. He was born in Edessa in 1966 and grew up in an ecclesiastical environment, always accompanied by the presence of Saint Kallinikos Metropolitan of Edessa. He studied at the Pedagogical Academy of Heraklion, Crete and at the Theological School of Thessaloniki.
Archimandrite Bartholomew Antoniou was elected the new Metropolitan of Polyanni and Kilkis. He was born in Thessaloniki in 1969 and was ordained a deacon in 1992 and a presbyter in 1994 by his Spiritual Father, the late Bishop Isidoros of Tralleis.
Archimandrite Grigorios Papathomas was elected the new Metropolitan of Peristeri. He is a graduate of the Theological School and the School Law of the University of Thessaloniki, and of the Law School and the School of Canon Law of Paris. He earned a Master’s Degree the Sorbonne and a PhD in Canon Law at the University of Paris.
Archimandrite Amfilochios Rousakis was elected the new Metropolitan of Thira, Amorgos, and islands. He was born in Athens in 1970 and graduated from the Rizareios Ecclesiastical School. He also studied at the Theological School of Athens.
