The Christmas World and a New Year’s Eve Celebration at the SNFCC!

December 16, 2020

ATHENS — December is here, and along with it the joy and magic of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) Christmas World, brought to life through a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). The festivities kicked off with a celebration on December 1, brightening the night with thousands of festive lights, and will continue throughout December.

On New Year’s Eve, the SNFCC will stay true to its annual tradition of ringing in the year to come with a rich and varied celebration—this year through an online livestream. The evening will kick off at 22:30 (EET) with a collaboration with the Greek National Opera (GNO), whose Orchestra, Choir, Ballet, distinguished soloists will appear from every corner of the GNO, joined by the MEIZON Ensemble and chóres. After a spectacular midnight show featuring fireworks and the Dancing Fountains in the SNFCC Canal, the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra will reprise famous Broadway musicals; Gumbo YaYa and Sugahspank! will carry you away with the sounds of New Orleans jazz and blues; and Palov will raise the roof with a DJ set dedicated to Caribbean music. The event will be hosted by actress Nandia Kontogeorgi.

The program will be livestreamed at snfcc.org and snf.org and broadcast live by ERT2.

Night one of the SNFCC Christmas World

The SNFCC Christmas World came alive once more this year, on December 1st, with a rich online program. Though we were not able to be there together in person this year, we could still enjoy the festivities through a live-broadcast celebration hosted by Greek musician Foivos Delivorias, who performed beloved songs in a virtual show inspired by a popular Athenian revue tradition. Foivos Delivorias and his electric quartet (Sotiris Douvas, Costis Christodoulou, Kostas Pantelis, Yoel Soto), the voice of Nefeli Fasouli, special guest appearances by talented comedians (Thanasis Alevras and Byron Theodoropoulos), and Vassilikos as guest of honor delivered a spirited show, whose grand finale was the illumination of the SNFCC Christmas World.
