He's unlikely to get any serious playing time but 22-year-old Georgios Kalaitzakis is for now on the roster of the NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks, along with superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
Kalaitzakis and Thanasis both played for Panathinaikos of Athens in 2018 and the Bucks’ new addition was selected in the 60th round of the 2021 NBA draft by Indiana, which traded his rights to Milwaukee.
The 6-8 forward has played for Greece's national team that has struggled in recent years and will find the NBA a big step up from European basketball, where he also played in Lithuania's tough league.
The site Fansided said he made a good impression after a practice in speaking with reporters. Slim at only 192 pounds for his height, he's known for a slashing style and ability to play like a guard too.
Team officials are said to see him as a project – as an 18-year-old Antetokounmpo was when he was drafted – and hoping the investment will pay off.
Now he just needs a cool nickname, like Antekounmpo's ‘Greek Freak’. Should be some good Greek talk in the locker room.
