Doing a few little things on a daily basis can help you have a higher quality life – things or habits that are inexpensive or even free.
Whether you call it meditation or prayer, for sure such activities ‘clear the mind” in the morning and in the night. It is a habit that promotes longevity.
Whether call it mind or just brain, whether acts of healing constitute spirituality for you – that ‘thing’ needs a rest. Continuous thinking is like having a stomach disease and continuing to eat at everything. Just make a step back, stop thinking but ‘feed your brain’ with proper ingredients too.
There is a lot of research going on regarding the ‘feeding the mind,’ or better, ‘brain function’ and it is clear there is no panacea its ills or treatment for cognitive enhancement. You have to put in a lot of effort and pay a lot of respect to this powerful and complex gift you have, the brain. It is the least you can do, in appreciation for the blessing of being a human being. Treating yourself with good food is something you can easily do. Adding herbs and spices will have beneficial effects on your brain. Acting at an early stage is of the outmost importance. It seems that from our 40s, cognitive functions may start to decline. Adding small amounts of herbs in a balanced, Mediterranean diet is the safest way to go, rather than supplements. One good example is lemon balm.
In Greek traditional use, lemon balm seems to “expel hypertension and old age” and “is powerful for the mind; it enhances memory and expels sadness and melancholy” – and all these appear to be symptoms of dementia. Lemon balm or ‘melissoxorto’ is good for blood pressure, headaches, and insomnia and is related to maintaining brain cognitive function. It promotes a healthy-working brain.
A daily lemon balm tea is the best way to start your day, promoting calmness. A teaspoon-full of leaves in a mug of boiled water is just perfect for the aroma, taste, and beneficial properties it brings. Also, you can add it raw and fresh in salads and sprinkle it on your meal, like parsley. Having it fresh by growing it in a pot or in your backyard is easy too. Just be careful with the extra moisture, as it may rot. Pour just a little water day by day.
Step-by-step is the way to go during early stages of ‘brain problems’ and it is the best and easiest ‘cure’ you can undertake. Small steps at first, then you can go further than faster. I can add: “go raw, go healthy.:
* The above is not medical advice but mere suggestions for improving your diet. Before reach herbal use you should consult your doctor, especially those who have health issues, are pregnant or are under the age of 6.
