The 48th Ghent International Film Festival to Focus on Greek Cinema

October 11, 2021

ΑΤΗΕΝS — The 48th Ghent International Film Festival, which will take place from October 12 to October 23 in the medieval city of Flanders, will feature a tribute to Greek cinema, its creators and the composers of its film scores.

In particular, the programme Focus on Greek Cinema will for the first time bring to Belgium a picture of Greek film through the decades, while inviting the audience of the festival to listen to the soundtrack that runs through it.

The Ghent Festival, which has always aimed at promoting the creation of film music, will award Eleni Karaindrou this year for all her work. The award ceremony will take place at the closing ceremony of the festival, during which the World Soundtrack Awards will be presented.

The programme was created in close collaboration with the Hellenic Cinema Center and is carried out with the support of the Greek Embassy in Belgium.

"Focus on Greek Cinema reflects the continuity of the presence of Greek cinema in Europe and its continuous scope in it from the time of the international recognition of Theodoros Angelopoulos until the current successful course of Christos Nikou," according to an announcement.

A total of 26 films, including short films, will be presented, as well as two international co-productions in which Greek producers participate.

CANNES, France — Fashion models, Instagram influencers and Russian oligarchs collide on a yacht — and some very extreme sickness ensues — in Ruben Östlund's "Triangle of Sadness," a social satire that had viewers at the Cannes Film Festival in hysterics.
