MORIA, Greece — Tents and other equipment to set up a camp, which had arrived at the airport on the island of Lesvos on Wednesday afternoon, started to be shuttled by helicopter to a Greek state property near the Kara Tepe refugee camp in Mytilene early on Friday morning. Additionally, a number of police vehicles from the mainland arrived on the morning ferry, were manned by the required officers and lined up along the route being occupied by refugees and migrants from the burnt-out Moria camp.

Thousands of migrants and refugees were still without shelter for a third day on Friday, following the successive fires at the Moria Reception and Identification Centre. They had camped out on the road leading from the entrance of Mytilene to the burned Moria hotspot, occupying the roadway, surrounding fields and the yards of businesses that have remain closed since Wednesday.

Food and water was being offered under very difficult conditions due to the congestion, while three National Public Health Organisation staffed vehicles are offering their services to the migrants and refugees.

Rapid tests for coronavirus are expected to arrive at Mytilene airport in the afternoon in order to start the process of protecting the community's health.
