Team of Civil Engineers to Begin Inspecting Buildings on Crete

ATHENS — A team of 20 civil engineers from the general directorate of the Infrastructure and Transport Ministry, by order of the minister, Costas Karamanlis, and Deputy Minister responsible for infrastructure Giorgos Karagiannis, were sent to the quake-stricken area of Heraklion on Crete on Monday to assist in the planning of actions to deal with the repercussions of the earthquake.

The team will immediately begin checking buildings and infrastructure to carry out damage estimates. The ministry, along with the municipality of Minoas-Pediada will create a coordination centre to facilitate the procedures and inspections and to better assist and inform the citizens affected by the strong earthquake.
