SYRIZA’s Achtsioglou on Protection of Primary Residences

September 30, 2020

ATHENS — Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance MP and sector-head for finance issues, Effie Achtsioglou, on Wednesday accused Finance Minister Christos Staikouras that, while he announced a one-month extension of the BRIDGE programme, he did not utter a single word about protecting primary residences.

"The reason is simple and cynical. Because there isn't any primary residence protection programme in Greece at this time," she said, adding that the prime minister, despite repeatedly announcing such protection will continue until December 31, 2020, had never legislated for it so that auctions of primary residences were already happening as a matter of course.

Achtsioglou stressed that the Bridge programme "is not a primary residence protection framework but a temporary subsidy for those stricken by the coronavirus".
