SYRIZA: Opening of Greek Tourism Hasty and without a Plan

ATHENS — Main opposition SYRIZA spokesperson Alexis Charitsis on Tuesday claimed that the country is experiencing the repercussions of the pandemic as the "government has put the country in recession from the end of 2019" adding that it did not proceed with a frontloaded support of the economy in the period of the pandemic as well as of middle classes as SYRIZA has asked with its programme.

He said that a very large deficit has been created in the state coffers and that thousands of Greeks are facing a problem of survival.

Referring to the opening of tourism, he characterised it hasty and without a plan and wished it would not cost to the country in terms of health.

Additionally, he accused the government of not shielding the national health system.

ATHENS - Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s government said billions of euros in subsidies to help Greek households wracked by soaring electric bills and energy costs doesn’t mean he will call early elections in hopes of gaining more support.
